Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery is a historic building accessed on level ground. Lifts provide access to all floors. Seating is provided throughout the building and are accessible toilets on each floor.

All reception and exhibition spaces have hard level flooring. All circulation routes and reception areas within the museum are well lit. Assistance dogs are welcome.

A hearing induction loop can be available throughout the building (please contact SM&AG ahead of your visit). Exhibitions include audio clips, tactile opportunities and interactive elements.

Mobile trolleys in the galleries provide opportunities for greater interaction. These include information relating to the displays and items from the Museum’s handling collections appropriate to the material being exhibited.

There are large print and braille versions of key museum texts available on request, and our gallery guides are on hand to help you get the most from your visit.

We look forward to welcoming you and if you have any queries or require any additional assistance please contact us.

Quiet Hour

We are pleased to offer The Quiet Hour from 10.00-11.00 on the last Sunday of the month.

Visitors can expect:

  • A quieter time when we typically experience fewer visitors*
  • Audio elements around the galleries to be turned off/down low
  • A quiet room to be available**

*During school holidays and popular Temporary Exhibitions we welcome more visitors. If you would like to guarantee a quiet visit, please email [email protected] and we can arrange a private visit when the museum is not open to the public (although this may incur a small charge).

**Not wheelchair accessible. Please email [email protected] if you need an accessible quiet room.
